Panettone is a soft, tall, cylindrical dome shaped Italian sweet bread with the festive aroma of raisins and candid fruits. In Italy, Panettone is an essential part of the holiday celebration especially during the Christmas season when it is eaten throughout the day, served with coffee at breakfast, with sweet wine ( vino Santo), Spumante or Prosecco as a dessert. Leftover panettone is delicious when served toasted with a spread of Nutella, butter or cheese such as Mascarpone or as the base for bread pudding, french toast or quick caramelized panettone slices.
Quick Caramelized Panettone Slices Recipe:
Brush the panettone slices on both sides with cognac using a pastry brush and then sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Melt 1/2 a butter stick in skillet or cast-iron pan over medium high heat.
Fry the panettone slices about 1 minute on each side or until the sugar is caramelized and the panettone gets that golden brown color.
Dust with a powdered sugar on top.
Serve warm with Mulled Wine.
